We were set the challenge to design a new lining to keep the contents of lunch boxes cooler for longer. We did an experiment, testing how well different materials insulated an ice cube and stopped it from melting. We recently built our own switches to control light bulbs. We have also investigated which metals are the best conductors, making the bulb shine brightest.
Our Inspire morning was exciting! It was about explorers in the Arctic and Antarctic. My favourite activity was the water one where I had to build my own exploration boat. We have been learning about Hazel dormice and what they eat. They eat hazelnuts (cobnuts), beech nuts, honeysuckle and blackberry. All of these things grow in our school yard. We collect hazelnuts and beechnuts and tried to identify tooth marks on them to tell us what ate them. In our science books we made food chains for the Hazel Doormouse. By LL.
In PE, we have been doing outdoor adventurous activities. As part of this we have been learning how to read maps and grid references. We had to hunt for orienteering markers in the school grounds one week. The next week, we hid our own markers and created maps for other teams to follow. During the first week of the school year, 2019, The Investigators (Y4/5) made a time capsule, which was a very exciting task. We put our end of year goals on sheets of paper and buried it near the reception school house. At the end of the year, we are going to dig up the time capsule and see if we achieved our goals.
Evie At the beginning of this year, we did lots of team building activities to help us develop positive communication skills and resilience. Here we are completing the helium sticks game.
As part of our Greatest Showman work, we investigated Cirque du Soleil. We wrote descriptions of what it must have been like to see it in person. |
