We created mixed media river scenes using natural objects from outside and a combination of chalk pastel, oil pastel, sketching pencil and crayon. Our pieces have foregrounds and backgrounds and they look really effective. Today we have been writing a poem about either the Murray River, Wave Rock, Uluru, The Twelve Apostles, Bungle Bungles or the Mitchell Falls. Some people wrote rhyming poems and some wrote poems without rhyme. We used metaphors, personification and similes. Some people wrote their poems from the point of view of the country Australia. Some children chose to write theirs from their own point of view. India's title was Australia, Lexie's title was Wave Rock, Evie's title was Landmarks. Everybody wrote an amazing poem. By Lexie, Evie and India On Thursday the 28th of June the Investigators went on a school trip, to the The National Science and Media Museum. It was really fun and I would recommend it to any age. We made a stop motion film with models made out of clay that we made. The staff are fun and enthusiastic. They have different rooms: one of them was called the Wonder Lab ! In the Wonder Lab you get to have an invisible tattoo on your hand with a magic pen . On one of the areas you go through a magic mirror maze ! It is really interesting and they include things for kids and adults, so the kids will love going. You'll be tired after going. Some of us fell to sleep on the way back. They even have a gift shop with lots of fun toys and pencils, key rings and rubbers etc. You really need to go, we all really liked it and all came back with a smile on our faces. By Mia B.
This week in maths, we have been looking at Ellsworth Kelly’s pieces of art. We have combined our art skills and our maths skills and made an Ellsworth Kelly masterpiece. Mr D’Souza Walsh gave us a hundred grid or a thousand grid, we chose 6 different colours including white and we made different patterns. We counted how many colours that we used on the 100 grid and had to put the numbers in fractions, decimals and percentages. We had lots of fun doing the activity. By Grace and Ava. As part of British Science week, we explored renewable and non-renewable energy. We studied different water-wheel designs and developed our own designs in our sketchbooks for water-wheel models. We built the water-wheel models in pairs and tested them out as a class. We tested the efficiency of our water-wheels by counting how many times each one rotated using 250ml of water. We then evaluated our water-wheels and thought of some scientific reasons to explain why some worked more efficiently than others. This world book day, we've dressed up and had lots of fun reading books. In the morning, we did some inference work based on 'Malala's Magic Pencil'.
Afterwards, we shared our favourite stories with our partners because the theme of this year's World Book Day is 'share a story'. Firstly , we learned all about E-safety, what to do and not to do online. After this, we went to do an E-safety poster about all we learned. We wrote things on the poster like : We want you to be kind online, We want you to be happy online, We don’t want cyber bullying, We want you to be encouraged online. By Hattie and Max R |
