The 'Share a book with a friend' morning on Wednesdays is going really well. Lots of children are bringing in their favourite books from home and reading them with a friend. It's lovely to see the children enjoying reading. Come and have a look at some of our photographs.
In literacy we have been writing setting descriptions. We took a trip to the local field so that we investigate what we could smell, see, hear and touch. It really helped us to write our setting descriptions and we had lots of fun! This week in literacy we have been learning about settings and how to write a setting description from the viewpoint of a character in the story 'One Snowy Night.' Here are a few for you to look at. Isobelle's setting description from Percy's viewpoint. Isabella's setting description from Percy's viewpoint. Ava's setting description from Percy's viewpoint. Riley's setting description from Percy's viewpoint. Arthur's setting description from the Squirrel's viewpoint. Jack's setting description from the squirrel's viewpoint. Lewis's setting description of the trim trail from Percy's viewpoint. Ethan's setting description of the trim trail from Percy's viewpoint.
This term we will be learning about the famous French artist, Claude Monet. On Monday, we looked at one of his paintings called 'The Magpie'. We used poster paints and feathering and shadowing techniques to create our pictures. Some of our artwork is displayed on our staircase, so come and have a look!
This week in Numeracy we are focussing on addition. We have been investigating different ways of adding using numberlines, 100 squares and using practical apparatus including cubes, numicon and Lego. This has allowed children to see the different methods that can be used to add 2 numbers together.
In literacy, we are looking at the fiction book One Snowy Night. We are learning the story through words and actions. On Monday, the children retold the story using a story trail. During the story trail, the children had to look for clues around the playground and retell that part of the story. Although it was cold, the children had a great time looking for clues!
