THE NAVIGATORS
Year One
Miss Marsland
The Year 1's had a great afternoon at Graves Leisure Centre doing lots of team building activities. The children were super and some of them even made some new friends! Have a look at some of our photographs from this afternoon.

On Thursday morning, the year 1's were extremely lucky to have 3 year 6's boys joining the class. We worked in groups to create our own explorer plans. We decided as a group where we would visit, how we would get there, who we would go with, what we would do there and what we would take. We will be using these explorer plans to create our own information texts.
It was lovely to see some many parents attending the Maths Morning. In year 1, we taught the parents how to add and subtract using the different methods that we use. Some parents were even brave enough to have a go at our weekly Maths Whizzers and Flash Maths challenges! A massive thank you for making the morning so enjoyable. In Science, we are learning to work scientifically. We did an investigation to see how quickly ice can melt. We placed 4 jars of ice around the classroom and did regular observations with a partner to see how quickly the ice melted. We predicted which place would melt the ice the quickest and which place would melt the ice the slowest. We discussed why we thought that. Finally, we discussed our results and why the window melted the ice the quickest. We decided that the sun helped to melt the ice the quickest. The ice that melted the slowest was placed in a shaded place.
