THE NAVIGATORS
Year One
Miss Marsland
For computing this week we did something a bit bonkers- we didn't even go on the computers!! Instead we learnt about 'Algorithms'. At first we were a little unsure what that meant. Miss Marsland started by giving us some instructions. The photos are the crazy characters we ended up with! Then Miss Marsland showed us what her crazy character looked like and how we could debug the algorithm to make it more precise. We then had a go at creating our own crazy character algorithm and tested on our friends.

In Maths we are looking at place value to 50. Today we worked with a partner to see which team could represent a number to 50 the quickest on a ten frame! We all had lots of fun and felt more confident with numbers to 50. On Pancake Day we learnt how different countries in the United Kingdom celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We then wrote compass directions on how to go to England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales! And of course we decorated yummy pancakes too to take home. In music, we have been listening to the composer Antonio Vivaldi. We started by listening to 'Spring' - the children had to close their eyes and think about what season they thought the piece of music sounded like. Most children said Summer, they were excited to find out it was Spring and we discussed the reasons why. Next we talked about what a composer and what tempo is. We had a go at because composers ourselves! When the music got louder we raised our invisible batons high and when the music got softer we lowered our batons. We had lots of fun!
As part of Internet Safety Day - Year 1 have been helping an alien learn all about how to stay safe on the internet. We taught Zudd a special song to remind him to speak to an adult if he is unsure about anything on the internet. Once he learnt everything he needed to know to keep him safe, we made an alien spaceship to help him travel home. Bye Zudd! We loved teaching you about internet safety! |
